NHL/Sharp: Playoff Pick April 15th

We are a bit late with publishing this pick, so we will make it shot and sweet:

Match: Montreal Canadiens – Ottawa Senators

Bet: Moneyline

Outcome: 2

Odds: 2,27

Bookmaker: Pinnacle

We were very much in doubt about whether we should take the Senators in Game 1 or just stick with our bet on them to progress. In the end we have decided to throw another unit after Ottawa, as this migh be the only match of the Series where Max Pacioretty is out for the home team Canadiens.

This means that Montreal will have an even tougher time of scoring as they are set to line up with the following forwards:

Alex Galchenyuk – Tomas Plekanec – Brendan Gallagher

Devente Smith-Pelly – David Desharnais – P.A. Parenteau

Jacob De La Rose – Lars Eller – Dale Weise

Brandon Prust – Torrey Mitchell – Bryan Flynn

As a forward group this is almost unspeakably bad for an NHL playoff team. Add to that, the Habs played very poorly down the stretch and in our rankings were 15th of 16 playoff teams over the last 25 games of the regular season.

Ottawa didnt rank up top either, when it comes to puck possession, but they did manage to finish the season going 23-4-4, so there is no doubt their confidence is top notch.

Whenever you bet against the Montreal Canadiens, you run the risk of Carey Price stealing the game and giving you a loss. If that happens, so be it, we are willing to take that chance and back the better team against the better goalie at a very nice underdog price.

We thought long and hard about backing Washington tonight vs the Islanders, but in the end feld the odds fell just short of value. So we will sit out the other 3 matches tonight and return tomorrow if we see anything of interest. Once new picks are online, we will of course let you know on both our own and Oddsavisens twitter accounts.
